A workshop for prospective wine grape growers is Dec. 15 in Canton, said Adam Russell of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. The extension service event is focused on educating residents in growing grapes as a hobby and commercially where favorable to their production in Texas. The workshop will be a full day of research-based education information to prepare attendees as they consider viticulture, said Michael Cook, AgriLife Extension regional viticulture specialist, Denton. The program is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Skinner Bridge Vineyard, 848 County Rd. 1213. Cost is $150 per person or $220 per couple. RSVP is required by Dec. 13, and payment via cash or check is due at the workshop. Lunch is provided. more

As work continues on the FM 849 bridge near Hideaway, Lindale Volunteer Fire Department Chief Joe Yeakley said his department has been busy to smooth out any problems related to emergency services in the area. On Tuesday Nov. 14, a truck carrying an oversized load (a tank vessel) on Interstate 20 crashed into the bridge, causing major structural damage. more
