Feral cats may look cute and cuddly, but they are a lot different than a typical house cat. While feral cats are considered wild animals and prefer to live their lives outdoors, their kittens can be rescued from the streets and put into loving homes. Feral cats have never been socialized to humans. In fact, feral cats are generally afraid of people and may even run away if approached, according to Megan Arroyo, a veterinary student at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. more
Officials with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are asking anglers and non-anglers to participate in a brief online survey to share their experiences and opinions about alligator gar, Texas’ largest freshwater fish. The results from this survey will help TPWD make informed management decisions regarding this species in the near future. more

During an extended session – nearly five hours -- Smith County Commissioners began work on the 2019 budget during their regular weekly meeting Tuesday (June 19) as County Judge Nathaniel Moran and County Auditor Ann Wilson offered a first draft for consideration. A “Back The Blue Summer Bash,’’ benefitting the East Texas Regional Fraternal Order of Police, is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 10 in downtown Lindale, publicity officials announced. Sponsored by Whataburger and DKT Enterprises, the event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Picker’s Pavilion and Love and War in Texas and will feature family fun, food trucks, a pie eating contest, dunking booth, bounce houses and a car and motorcycle show. more

Officials with the Lindale ISD Alumni Association have announced its bi-annual Multi-Class Reunion is scheduled for July 14, 2018 at Lindale Junior High School.
