The University of Texas at Tyler has scheduled its annual physical education workshop for 8:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, publicity officials announced. The all-day event will be held at the UT Tyler Herrington Patriot Center. Cost is $80 for educators and professionals and $40 for college students enrolled in teacher certification programs. The science of motion and STEM education are the focus of a new dome show, exhibit and upcoming science night at the Center for Earth & Space Science Education at Tyler Junior College, said spokesperson Elise Mullinix. TJC science center is located at 1411 E. Lake St., on the TJC main campus. Hours of operation are 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays and 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturdays. Parking is free. It would be easy to assume Janice Caldwell’s legacy as an educator with the Lindale ISD would be judged by the enormous successes of her speech and debate students over the years. However, this would be missing the big picture. A true educator in every sense of the word, Caldwell was honored this past Friday by the Lindale ISD Alumni Association with its Distinguished Service Award, which is given to a former faculty member or other individual whose outstanding service greatly contributed to the success of the LISD. more
A car, bicycle accident Saturday just after noon claimed the life of a Lindale man on Highway 69 about two miles south of the river bridges. The Lindale Fire Department received the call to the accident at 12:10 p.m. Saturday. The Texas Department of Public Safety also responded to the scene which was in Smith County. more
