Five Lindale High School seniors were awarded scholarships recently by the Hideaway Lake Kiwanis Club, publicity officials announced. The scholarships totaled $30,000. Recipients included Callie Johnson, Camden Brown, Savannah Pruett, Dallas Brock and Lizeth Corrales. Johnson received the Emery Crane Scholarship, worth $11,480. She is the daughter of James and Nathalie Johnson. more
New Chapel Hill Mayor Riley Harris has served his city for the last 10 years. His family has been in New Chapel Hill since his great-great grandmother settled on a 160-acre homestead there in 1851 and except for a few years living in Winona, Harris has lived in New Chapel Hill his entire life. The city of New Chapel Hill formed in 1969, but there was a school there long before that time. It was a farming community, where people grew peanuts, cotton and tomatoes. more
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has appointed Tyler Junior College’s Department Chair of Government and Economics Geoffrey Willbanks as a member of the Political Science Field of Study (FOS) Advisory Committee. The committee is composed of 24 voting members (12 from public community colleges and 12 from public universities) from a representative sample of institutions of varying sizes, peer groups, and regions of the state. more
Tyler Junior College’s Amanda M. Richardson has been appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to the Dental Review Committee, school officials announced. A registered dental hygienist, Richardson serves as professor and clinical coordinator at TJC. The committee serves on informal settlement conference panels to determine whether an informal disposition of a contested case against a license holder is appropriate, and to make recommendations for the disposition of the complaint or allegation. more
