Reta Chappell Maxted, artist and art teacher, has some of her work on display at the London Museum, Cafe & Soda Fountain in New London during October.
October is the month of the Tyler Rose Festival and time for beautiful roses in many East Texas gardens.
“Memory is the key to my work. I paint my mother’s roses, long-faded, but strong in my memory," said Maxted.
The London Museum tells the story of the tragic explosion that destroyed the London School on March 18, 1937, killing nearly 300 students, teachers, and visitors.
Museum and Fountain hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Cafe at the Museum is open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and features daily lunch specials, soups, sandwiches, and desserts. The cafe and soda fountain are maintained and staffed by volunteers.
The museum is located at 10690 South Main (Hwy. 42), New London.
