Two track stars and a girls soccer standout from Lindale High School have signed college letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college and were honored this past week at a ceremony in the high school cafeteria.
Parents of Judith Avila, Kimberly Aubuchon and Andrew Spellman joined Lindale ISD Athletic Director Mike Maddox, LHS coaches, teachers and friends for the festivities on Wednesday, May 9.
Avila will play soccer at LSU-Eunice, Aubuchon will join the track team at Pittsburgh (Kan.) State and Spellman will be on the track squad at Louisiana Tech University.
“Everyone is so very proud of every one of you,’’ Maddox said. “You have represented Lindale High School with class and integrity and we hope these years here in Lindale will help you in your college life.’’
Maddox added that while high school years are enjoyable, there are many life memories to be attained in college.
“College life is something you’ll treasure for the rest of your lives,’’ he said.
LHS girls soccer coach Kristin Parson paid tribute to Avila.
“We are so very proud of her and her accomplishments,’’ the coach said. “She was one of our leading scorers and we knew we could always count on her. She always gave us 110 percent and there’s no question we are going to miss her.’’
Track coaches Mike Howell and Scott Rozell also spoke highly of their pair of pole vaulters.
“I’ve only been here two years but I’ve enjoyed watching these two compete,’’ Rozell said. “We are certainly going to miss their points next year.’’
Howell was equally effusive in his praise for the two youngsters.
“What a gift it’s been for me to be able to work with these two kids,’’ he said. “I’m so proud of them. They are so smart and blessed with athletic talent.’’
