Downtown lights brighten season

Thanks to the efforts of Lindale’s Jan Duncan, merchants in downtown Lindale have been awarded for their efforts to brighten their businesses for the Christmas season.

Down South Clothier, owned by Michael and Catherine Simms, won first place, Precision Car Wash, owned by Jerreth and Ben Pate won second and third place went to Audrey Turner and Camron Turner of Main Street Market.

Judges were Paul Simmons, Angela Graziano and Amy Blevins.

Duncan, who feels the downtown area should have a degree of sparkle, began her lighting quest in September by visiting businesses and asking merchants if they would be willing to string lights on their buildings.

“All the little towns around here have lights downtown,’’ she said. “I just felt we needed to do that as well.’’

Duncan said she made fliers and went handed them out to downtown businesses.

Judging took place on Friday, Dec. 1.
