Interstate 20 eastbound at Toll 49 was reopened Monday afternoon (July 9) after a seven hour closure caused by an 18-wheeler crash, Texas Department of Transportation officials said.
The driver of the semi later died, officials said. The rig slammed into the Toll 49 Bridge over I-20, which was later inspected and opened to, TxDOT officials added.
The south end of the bridge shifted about three inches during the crash impact and was inspected by a bridge engineer.
There is some minor damage that will require repairs in the coming days, TxDOT officials said, but it does not affect the strength of the bridge.
Repairs will be conducted by the Northeast Texas Regional Mobility Authority which is responsible for Toll 49.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m.
