Lady Eagles open district with win at Corsicana


The Lindale High School Lady Eagles volleyball team opened up District 17-5A play on a rousing note on Tuesday, Sept. 19 in Corsicana with a five-set victory over the Lady Tigers.

This was the first victory for LHS in Corsicana in three seasons. Both of these squads shared the district title last year.

In addition to the victorious varsity, the freshman and junior varsity squads claimed wins.

The varsity downed Corsicana 17-25, 27-25, 25-22, 17-25 and 15-11, while the junior varsity earned a 25-11, 21-25 and 26-24 win. For the freshmen, the Lady Eagles took a 25-19 and 25-17 win.

Lindale was led at the net by Brina Kuslak (11 kills, 2 blocks), Lorin Reue (10 kills, 2 blocks, 5 digs), and Shelbi Steen (9 kills, 6 digs, 2 aces). Hannah Knox and Shailan Davis each chipped in 6 kills apiece.

Both setters, Harleigh Thurman and Kalaya Pierce, put up 20 assists and 9 digs on the night. They kept the ball moving extremely well for all hitters. Libero Alisha Kiser had an impressive 36 digs on the evening, and defensive specialist Jennifer Moyer added 16 digs to help Kiser with the defensive effort.

Next up for the Lady Eagles was a match against Nacogdoches in the LHS Gym.

All junior high and elementary school age youngsters who attended camps were honored.
