Lady Eagles suffer first district loss


Lindale High School’s Lady Eagles suffered a rare District 15-5A loss this past week as the Texas High Lady Tigers defeated LHS in volleyball action on Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Texarkana.

But Friday (Oct. 5) against Greenville in the LHS gym, the Lady Eagles rebounded to defeat the Lady Lions and improve to 4-1 as the first half of the league schedule came to a close.

On Tuesday the varsity lost 24-26, 21-25, 25-17, 20-25. Leading Lindale at the net was Brina Kuslak (8 kills, 7 blocks), Shelbi Steen (8 kills, 2 blocks), and Hannah Knox (7 kills).

Setters Harleigh Thurman and Kalaya Pierce had 18 and 14 assists respectively.

Libero Jennifer Moyer had 27 digs in the four set battle.

Friday night brought wins at all three levels for the Lady Eagles against Greenville.

The Freshman A team won against Greenville 25-22 and 25-16. The Freshman B team also traveled to Whitehouse for a match on Friday and lost in two tough sets to a competitive a Whitehouse team. JV defeated Greenville 25-22 and 26-24.

Varsity won by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-23. Leading at the net was Shelbi Steen (11 kills, 3 blocks, 12 digs), Brina Kuslak (8 kills, 1 block), London Reue (8 kills), and Skylar Wyllie (6 kills, 2 blocks).

With four hitters leading in kills, setters Harleigh Thurman and Kalaya Pierce did a great job at moving the ball around. Thurman had 18 assists, and Pierce added 12 more. Libero Jennifer Moyer had 25 digs in the three set match.

The second round of district play was to begin at home on Tuesday (Oct. 9) with a home match against Mount Pleasant.

It will also be Teacher Appreciation night. On Friday the Lady Eagles were to travel to take on Sulphur Springs.
