Five Lindale High School athletes will continue their athletic and academic careers at the college level after signing letters of intent this past week in the high school cafeteria.

In front of family, coaches and classmates, Cody Collingsworth (basketball, University of Portland), Jodi DeHart (softball, Tyler Junior College), Deanna Saunders (softball, Navarro Junior College), Cody Pike (baseball, North Central Texas Community College) and Cameron Wheeler (baseball, University of Texas at Tyler) put their names on the dotted line on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Lindale ISD Athletic Director Mike Maddox spoke to how proud everyone was of each of the athletes.

“This is a big day and a great day for all these student athletes,’’ Maddox said. “We should thank each and every one of these student athletes for the investment they’ve made in our school – not just in sports but in the classroom as well.’’

LHS girls softball coach Meredith Grant spoke about DeHart and Sanders.

“Our team is certainly going to miss these two players,’’ she said. “Deanna goes all out and Jodi just doesn’t like to lose.’’

Chris Grotemat, boys basketball coach, offered high praise for Collingsworth.

“I couldn’t be prouder of this young man,’’ he said. “I’ve been so impressed with him as a player and as a person of such maturity.’’

Rich Sanguinetti then spoke about his baseball players, Wheeler and Pike.

“This senior class is very special to me,’’ the coach said, referring to how each of this year’s seniors started out as freshmen in Sanguinetti’s first year. “It’s a true blessing for me to be around these young men and see them grow up.’’
