LHS takes down Jacksonville in basketball, 61-45

The Lindale High School boys basketball team ran its record to 3-0 this past week with a 61-45 win over Jacksonville in the LHS Gym.

This win, added to a victory over Whitehouse on Saturday and an earlier win over Tatum enabled the Eagles to start the season with a perfect record.

Cody Collinsworth led the Eagles with 21 points against Jacksonville. The 7-footer recently signed with the University of Portland. He moved into the Lindale ISD from Pilot Point.

Jacob Koeshall added 16 for the Eagles, while Holton Knox put in 9, Connery Churchill had 7, Teigan Edwards tossed in 6 and Kobe Scott added 2 points to the Eagles’ total.

Lindale bolted out to a 17-8 lead after one period, but had that cut to 26-25 by the half as the Indians outscored Lindale 17-9 in the second period.

The Indians held a brief 28-26 lead as the third period opened, but the Eagles roared back to score nine unanswered points and built a 44-37 advantage.

Lindale’s defense was superlative in the fourth period as the Indians were held without a field goal until the waning seconds of the game.

During this span, the Eagles went on a 16-2 run to put the game out of reach.

In the first period, Lindale led by seven at 9-2 when Scott and Collinsworth put in back-to-back baskets to build a 17-8 lead after one.

In addition to his 16 points, Koeshall pulled down five rebounds for the Eagles and Churchill had four blocks. Edwards led the club in assists with five.

The Eagles, winners of their season opener against Tatum last week, defeated Whitehouse in the first round of the TABO Classic at Whitehouse High School on Saturday, 53-31.

Koeshall led the Eagles with 18 points while Collinsworth added 16 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

The Eagles jumped out to a 26-5 advantage at the end of the opening period and had a 37-15 lead at the half. Lindale padded that margin to 49-21 at the end of the third.

Teigan Edwards pulled down eight rebounds for the Eagles to go along with four assists and four steals.
