Addison Baquet of Lindale High School was recently awarded a $5,000 Smith County Area Go Texan Scholarship and joined 10 other students from the county in receiving college funds, publicity officials announced.
Area Go Texan committees from participating Texas counties promote the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo through a variety of activities, and HLSR Go Texan scholarships are awarded to the represented county.
The Smith County Go Texan organization is a non-profit organization which raises funds for deserving local students.
SCAGT officials said students do not need to be in FFA programs to be eligible for scholarships. In 2017, eight scholarships of $5,000 each to Smith County students and the HLSR provided two county students with scholarships worth $20,000 each.
Students can also reapply for scholarships in their junior and senior years for an additional $16,000.
Applications can be made online by logging on to www.smithcoagt.org.
