Football is the reigning king of East Texas high school sports, but the region also has some very good baseball players, including Lindale High School’s James Richey who was one of several players from the region who earned All State honors from the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association.
The THSBCA released its all-state teams, from Class 2A through Class 6A, this past week.
Richey, who has signed to play with the Texas State University Bobcats next season, played third base for the Eagles and helped his club claim the bi-district championship this season after finishing second in District 17-5A in the regular season with an 8-2 record.
The Eagles finished up with a 23-9-1 record for the year. Lindale defeated the Bryan Rudder Rangers in bi-district to advance to the area round.
After winning bi-district Lindale took on the Magnolia Bulldogs in the area round and fell 6-1 and 15-1.
Along with Richey, 17-5A’s Dawson Woods, catcher from Corsicana, was also named to the Class 5A first team
