EDITOR’S NOTE

Many happy returns, Bobby!

Posted

On Oct. 10, 1933, the Walston household experienced a truly blessed event as little Robert Walston was born and joined the rest of the clan in North Little Rock, Ark.

Virtually everyone in Lindale knows him as Bobby, and he’s been a familiar face at Dairy Queen, several businesses downtown, Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home and here at the Lindale News and Times.

From Arkansas, the family moved to Freeport where his father had a printing business where Bobby eventually became gainfully employed. (He also had a job painting fire hydrants, which is an interesting story we might cover on his next birthday).

He’ll stop by once or twice a week and we chat about all kinds of things, from old cars, to town gossip and whether we’ve “put the paper to bed,’’ industry vernacular for finishing this week’s newspaper.

Bobby is a fixture at Countryfest and he can be found at the Crossroads Classic Car Show every year.

So if you see him between now and Countryfest, join us in wishing a truly good guy a Happy 85th birthday.

Here’s to many more, Bobby.
