Mineola Nature Preserve hosts showing of Perseids Meteor Shower


The Mineola Nature Preserve in conjunction with the Astronomical Society of East Texas will sponsor a viewing of the Perseids Meteor Shower at the preserve from dark until midnight on Sunday, Aug. 12, publicity officials announced.

The location is the “East” parking lot and the “West’’ parking lot should be used for parking.

The event is free and open to all and those attending may need to bring a blanket, binoculars and a lawn chair.

Telescopes will be available to view other celestial objects as well.

Officials urge those attending to bring repellent wipes to deal with mosquitoes. Smoking isn’t allowed.

A cancellation notice will be posted on the Society’s website: asetexas.org, via this email: info@asetexas.com, and a sign at the Preserve entrance stating “STAR GAZING IS OFF”.
