Troup rebounded from the opening 7-3 loss to Hughes Springs in the area round of the State playoffs to win the final two games and advance to the regional quarterfinal round.

The Tigers will play Beckville starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18. The contest will be played at Brook Hill in Bullard. Tickets will cost $5 for adults and $3 for students.

If the game has to be canceled because of adverse weather, it will be moved to 2 p.m. Friday, also at Brook Hill.

The second game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Carthage High School in Carthage. A third game, if necessary, will immediately follow the second game.

The winner of the Troup-Beckville game will play the winner of the Farmersville-Gunter game in the regional semifinals.

Troup jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and improved to a 7-0 lead in the third inning of the first game.

The Tigers had to hold on for a 7-6 victory to claim the series. The Mustangs started to rally with three runs in the third stanza, and they plated two more runs in the fourth inning to cut the Troup lead to 7-5.

After two scoreless innings, Hughes Springs mounted one final rally in the seventh inning. Three consecutive singles scored one run, but the defense responded by throwing out a runner at third and fielding a bunt to get the second out. Weslee Ross, who was on the mound in relief, got the final Hughes Springs batter to pop up in foul territory for the final out.

Jones Ard was the starting pitcher for the Tigers.

Josh Parker was on the mound for the Tigers in the 6-0 win in game two. He spread out five hits to keep the Mustangs off the scoreboard.

The Tigers collected seven hits, including multiple hits by Jones Ard and Rowdy Howell. Weslee Ross, Wood, Ard, Colton Whitsell, and Justin Nelson each drove in one run for the Tigers.

The Mustangs defeated Troup 7-3 in the first game. Jaden Lewis, Whitsell, Nelson and Ard each collected multiple hits for Troup. Lewis went three-for-three at the plate to lead the offense.
