Truck driver faces aggravated assault charges

A truck driver from Louisiana was booked into the Smith County Jail this past week facing charges of aggravate assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly firing a handgun at a SUV at the intersection of Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 271, officials confirmed.

Brian Michael Busy, 29, of Oakgrove, La., was jailed on a $75,000 bond after he was suspected of firing a small-caliber handgun into the bumper of a SUV, after the occupants pulled next to Busby to warn him of a tire that was causing his 18-wheeler to spark.

The occupants of the SUV called 911 at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20 to report the incident, officials said. Smith County deputies arrested Busby in the parking lot of Texas Best Smokehouse.

The SUV occupants told authorities Busby brandished the handgun at a passenger in the SUV, which prompted the driver to speed away from Busby.

The occupants then heard a gunshot, prompting them to contact 911.
